Least favorite is anything with stupid characters that even as a baby were unable to find the tit to nourish themselves. Oh noes, a guy wants to kill me! There is a huge group of people here, so better run to some abandoned building and then corner myself, quickily!

Slow burners that just give you the creeps for a long time.

Also super natural horror, as long as it's done intelligently

Favourite: Scifi horror, horror with an isolated group, found footage

Least favourite: horror comedy (with some notable exceptions); I would rather watch a regular comedy. Some slashers are cool, but I tend to like slashers less than other horror styles.

Favorite: Cosmic or otherwise mind bending horror where watching is uncomfortable and makes me anxious and I'm trying to figure out what is going on without ever actually finding out more than the superficial explanation. The absolute best tend to have no or extremely few jump scares and any gore makes sense in the context of the setting.

Least favorite: Anything that relies entirely on jump scares or torture. Being startled or grossed out are not scary to me at all, and come across as lazy.

I see horror comedies as primarily comedies and they can have as many jump scares and ridiculous torture and gore that they want to as long as it is played up for comedic purposes.

Favourite: I love a good haunting especially if the ghost has a good backstory

Least Favourite: That subgenre of psychological horror where the whole thing is an unreliable narrator/psychosis, and the movie just tries to confuse you to seem deep.

I prefer high-minded horror. Cosmic, cult, psychological, etc. Actually, the less of a personal physical threat there is, the better. The idea of being added to a human centipede and surviving for days, weeks, or even months, is so much more terrifying than being stabbed by some guy in a mask and dying quickly, and the idea of becoming a Cassandra, forced to watch things happen but unable to stop them, is worse still. The idea of otherworldly beings that don't hate you but can and would wipe you out as casually as we kill a beetle crossing the road beneath our wheels is so much more compelling than 'Get some holy water on the way home, please, honey. There's a demon in the kids again.' I also hate stupid characters. I'm not interested in watching people who are not, at least, vaguely intelligent. If their first, last, and best attempt to defend themselves is guns, knives, and explosives, why are we even watching?

The rest of my preferences are more about quality. Effortful writing, minimal jumpscares or orchestra stings, balance between unflinching realism and gratuitous visuals, minimizing things that 'just happen' for narrative convenience, etc.

Fave: Sci-fi horror (Alien, Sunshine, etc.) Least fave: the one that combines sex and violence (i.e. I Spit on Your Grave, Straw Dogs, etc.)

Favorite: horror comedy.

Least favorite: the news.

My favorite is the kind that's well beyond real-life understanding (cosmic, supernatural, etc).

Least favorite is hard to choose (I'm picky!), but probably torture porn/extreme horror. I'm also not a fan of intentionally schlocky, cheesy stuff.

Favorite: monsters

Least favorite: body horror

Don't like gore. Give me psychological horror that builds slowly.

I love old Hammer Horror & Amicus movies. Especially the anthologies.

I also have a place in my heart for 70s/80s horror that centers around teenagers like the first two Friday the 13th, Halloween, or Terror Train. All because I used to stay up late and watch these on cable as a kid.

Not a fan of torture porn, like “Saw”.
