I mean no offense to any older actors when I say this, but...

At a certain point age becomes a liability if they fall over and break a hip while doing a scene. The frailness of their older bodies is a very real thing and complicates a movie shoot.

That doesn't mean Hollywood should shy away from hiring them, but it means I can understand why Hollywood is hesitant to.

Jamie Lee Curtis is 66, only ten years younger than my own mother, and my mother is so frail it scares me sometimes. Little things take so long to heal. She twisted her knee a small amount in the grass almost two weeks ago and its still a bit swollen.

Ageism is real, but so is elderly frailty and fragility.

I really believe elder frailty has little to do with it, and the bigger issue is they aren't hot and marketable anymore

That being said movies are pretty easy to control and scenes can have little to no real danger even for the frail. That being said I see a lot of old actors still in movies.

Accidents still happen.

Foodles production company faced sentence today at Aylesbury Crown Court after previously pleading guilty to two counts of breaching its health and safety duties. A court had formerly been told that Ford could have been killed in the incident while filming at Pinewood Studios in London.

Such accidents are even more deadly for the elderly.

Tom Cruise will be jumping off buildings for as long as Xenu allows. Another year another million. Only time will tell.

She seems to be doing pretty well I think she's in like two big movies this year or something right?

To be fair there's only so many times a movie about a group of retirees going to vegas one last time can be made, there's more parts for younger people because younger people are out doing things, discovering themselves, making mistakes. Generally younger people live much more exciting lives and as such more movies made featuring them because people like to watch those things and not some old folks rambling around the set. There's exceptions of course but I'm not sure why this isn't brought up, yes young people are hotter but also they generally are in a more interesting part of their lives.

Betty White and Angela Lansbury come to mind, but maybe they were more the exception.
