Probably don't want to candy coat a diabetes medicine, as t2ds should be avoiding sugar all together.

Everyone I've known with diabetes doesn't take something orally for it; they just inject insulin. Is there an oral form of insulin now and everyone I know is just living in the past?

stomach acid will destroy insulin, hence the injection is needed. for type 2 they can take oral non-insulin medication to manage thier levels.

No oral insulin, but some t2ds can keep their blood sugar in "range" with just oral medicine.

i.e. the early t2ds whos bodies are still responsive to the insulin their pancreas is producing and are teetering on the edge.. so when metformin down regulates gluconeogenesis and upregulates glut4 transporters it can be just enough to avoid hyperglycemia

Think of it as the last hail Mary of the prediabetic

Type 2 is often treated with oral drugs such as metformin. All type 1 people are insulin dependent but only about 50% of people with type 2.

Why stop at metformin?

I was reading up on this the other day and supposedly the extended-release metformin doesn't smell as bad because of the coating on it.

That's the stuff I take. Believe me, it's not nice

I've been on it starting this year, and i hate pills. Like I can't swallow them at all and if I need even a Tylenol I break it in half. I am shocked everyone thinks it tastes horrible? I haven't even noticed, and I guess that's a good thing.

So if you can find an independent pharmacy that still does their own mixes. Many of those would mix suckers with medicine. So there is precedence. It sounds like it was something pretty common in the day.
