I'm glad this finally got done, and apparently was done in time for him to join the team on tour.

It's also somewhat impressive looking at the transfer business that Arsenal have brought in 6 players 2-3 who will be starters, and have only spent about £200m. That's a lot of money, but it's about what Arsenal spent in 22/23 for Gabriel Jesus, Zinchenko, Fabio Vieira, Trossard, Kiwior, Jorginho, Matt Turner and Marquinhos. IMO the players Arsenal bought this time are more impressive.

OTOH, the selling is incredibly bad so far. Arsenal has 6 players out: Tavares, Marqinhos, Tierney, Jorginho, Tomiyasu and Partey and they have brought in a total of £7m so far. I really think Arsenal needs to get better at selling.

In fairness, almost all of those we let go were gonna be out of contract. Also I coulda sworn Tavares went for like 10m, no?

It's true that nobody that was let go had a lot of value. And, even though Arsenal did cancel some contracts early, like Tomiyasu and Jorginho, they probably wouldn't have brought in much in fees.

But, it also shows that Arsenal isn't doing very well at selling players who do have some value before their contracts run out. Like, Tierney could probably have been sold for at least some value a bit earlier, especially given that Arsenal had about 4 left backs last season.

with Tierney's injury record and him being injured during the summer window, no one was gonna buy him last summer. and by January we needed him to not fall apart. At left wing lmao.

I think what we really need to do is to stop signing injury prone players tbh

yeah I know but hey we got Rice alright, give me a few more of him.

It's funny, sometimes Rice doesn't seem like he's an amazing player. It sometimes just seems like he's an older brother and everyone else on the pitch is a kid. From that perspective, it makes sense why he's so durable.

Also, it's hard to guess whether someone is injury prone. Calafiori had some minor injuries before coming to Arsenal, but his extended absence at Arsenal was unusual. Then there's Timber, who was basically injury free before Arsenal. Ben White had no injuries until he joined Arsenal and then... Kai Havertz had no long term injuries at Leverkusen or Chelsea, but then was out for 3 months at Arsenal.

I'm sure part of the problem was that last year Arsenal didn't have enough players to properly rotate. I hope this season that changes.
