Using widely available technology, well-known ethical hackers Chris Kubecka and Paula Popovici quickly accessed numerous pornography sites without ever verifying their ages.

Thanks for telling them…

Well, they are white hat

Today I read a thread of people using the photo mode of death stranding to prove they are Norman Reedus. While this certainly won't be the end to the story, it's kind of funny this iteration of a clearly unfinished age verification system got out there. Makes me wonder how good they are going to protect their "customers" data.

Britain's government spends an insane amount of money to combat what they claim is benefit fraud, taking actions that hurt real claimants far more than fraudulent ones, in the form of reducing or removing the payments. We're very used to this kind of waste.

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 8 points 6 days ago

It's been proven several times that the amount of money they spend tackling benefit forward far exceeds the amount of fraud.

It would literally be cheaper if they just moved over to UBI

By 10am on Friday, data suggested an extra 66,000 internet users in the UK had begun using the dark web.

"People should be aware that children and adults who use [certain software] to bypass age checks will not benefit from the wider protections offered by our online safety rules."

Genius

Conservatives and that Australian feminazi group are basically terrorists, their actions do nothing but harm the lifestyle of absolutely everyone, achieve nothing if not toxic control over vulnerable people, and divert valuable and finite resources from real issues.

[–] oxysis@lemmy.blahaj.zone 28 points 1 week ago

All conservatives are not just basically terrorists, they are terrorists. conservatism is a plague that must go away or else we will always be held back.

I'm gonna start by saying that I absolutely hate the people responsible for systems like this.

With that said, can we please not bring back Gamergate terminology? Call the Australian lady a TERF or an asshole or whatever, but seeing the word "feminazi" makes me feel like I'm on reddit back in 2016.

The UK government is not currently conservative. But they're doing a very good job of acting like it

[–] flamingo_pinyata@sopuli.xyz 16 points 1 week ago

They are not members of the party called the Conservative Party. It doesn't stop them from being conservatives ideologically.

if something behaves like a thing it is, in effect, that thing. the point of a system is what it does

[–] blargbluuk@sh.itjust.works 42 points 1 week ago

What an enormous waste of resources this whole thing is

It’s more about data collection than it is about verifying age

Please verify if you are 18 or over by clicking YES to read this comment.

  • YES
  • NO

Looks like a bunch of under 18 year old hackers found out how to click YES.

[–] Notyou@sopuli.xyz 15 points 1 week ago

Ahhh, yes. I remember hacking many sites when I was 16. Such 1337 skills I had.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

Who would have thought...

[–] BlackPenguins@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Although Sky News has verified the methods used by Ms Kubecka and Ms Popovici, we won't give details or name any software used.

Is it called... Photoshop?

[–] Little8Lost@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

Would be funny if it was death stranding

[–] Badabinski@kbin.earth 1 points 1 week ago

FINO is infinitely better in my opinion.
