I've just about come full circle with this game. I started playing with my sons back when it came out and cycled from being an Autocannon/tank character to running solo ops with the jump pack and anti material rifle. Now I'm starting back up and have reverted to using the Autocannon again, but I use the fire-proof, heavy armor so I can bring the Double-Edged Sickle as my primary. I use the sickle to clear out enemies closer to me than would be comfortable with the AC and then switch to the AC to devastate anything farther off. There is a one handed anti-tank pistol you can get in one of the warbonds that I'm using as a secondary, but I'm not committed to that yet. It is hilarious to launch it where the bot drop ships set everyone down.

What are you using and how are you using it these days?

I'm a big fan of the Eruptor as a primary, the Las-58 Talon laser pistol, and usually Incendiary grenades. I tend to favor the light Siege Ready armor, for faster reloads and extra ammo.

The Eruptor is just so strong against every faction. With it's Heavy Pen there aren't a lot of things it can't kill. It makes shortt work of tightly packed groups of chaff, it'll regularly one shot mediums like Devestators and 'Nid Warriors, and headshots will one shot squid overseers. It's also surprisingly effective against the Fleshmobs. Initially I'd been bringing the Machinegun support weapon to make up for close range targets, but the Talon has been more than suitable for that task.

I tend to fight Bots (unless the MO sends us elsewhere) and my main load out is: Adjudicator (4x scope, vertical grip, compensator) for the medium AP, Senator for the occasional heavy AP panic fire, and either Thermite or Seeker grenades. Light armor with either the Scout or Fortified passive, depending on if I'm solo or grouping. Default stratagem tend to be: Eagle Strafing Run, Railgun, Hover Pack, and MG Turret. Alternates would be the 500kg if I don't think the strafe will work, Grenade Launcher if there are hordes of enemies, Guard Dog or K9 if the planet isn't hover friendly, and mines for whimsy.

Bots are my preferred enemy also. Tell me more about your railgun use, please! I keep trying to love that thing, but haven't found the knack yet. It seems underwhelming for something called a railgun. In my mind it should fire really slow, but basically one-shot anything, regardless of armor, but that doesn't seem to be what happens.

If you're looking for distance kills, the AMR works far better (I am baffled why they didn't put a better scope on the railgun). I focus on medium and up-close kills. To aid this, I have practiced rapid reloading after every shot. For anything less than hulks, unsafe mode will one-shot them. Hulks can be one-shot through the eye. Anything bigger (turrets, tanks, etc) need to target weak points.

I had hoped that the Epoch would be a bigger railgun, capable of taking out big enemies easier, or possibly dropships and foundries, but I have been sorely let down.

I like a lot of variety, so I switch every few games depending on team build.

Bugs:

  • Breaker + laser pistol + thermite (breaker max ergo with duckbill and drum mag)
  • flame + hover pack + autocannon turret + 500kg for tank busting (or go recoilless+ gas strike if no flame armor)
  • sentinel + hover pack + mortar + cluster bomb for anti-small units
  • airburst + 500kg + orbital napalm + rocket/auto sentry for all-around

Experimenting with the epoch and laser turret now, but not impressed with the laser turret and the epoch can explode butts, but it takes 3-4 hits for bile titans and the 45° random direction makes it inconsistant

Bots:

  • Deadeye + laser pistol + thermite
  • heavy SMG/countersniper + grenade pistol + stun grenade is also good
  • commando + jump pack + autocannon turret + 120mm for fast roaming and outpost destruction
  • heavy machine gun + shield pack + 500kg + gatling for solo or bad teamwork runs. It can kill anything alone except factory striders

Squids (I don't like them as much)

  • deadeye/scorcher + laser pistol + dynamite
  • commando + jump pack + 120mm + napalm strike

As you can probably tell, I am a light armor player lol

I've recently been enjoying the shield backpack, quasar cannon, 110mm eagle, and mg sentry.

I bounce between the diligence and reprimand with the senator as a side.

I’ve started memeing on bugs with my Fire Marshall build. Cookout - Grenade Pistol - Incendiary Grenades - Flamethrower - Napalm Eagle - Portable Hellbomb - Flame Turret - Light/Medium Flame resistant armor depending on difficulty.

Bots is usually Sickle - Ultimatum (good for those random shredder tanks) - Dynamite - Laser cannon - shield generator - eagle airstrike - autocannon turret - bloodhound armor

Squids I try to avoid at all costs, but… Adjudicator - Talon - thermite grenades - eagle 500kg - autocannon (flak) - orbital barrage - gatling turret - medium engineer kit armor

I switch it up a lot, but there are a few things I take regularly.

My secondary is the grenade pistol unless I take the crossbow or Eruptor since they are explosive. The grenade pistol is handy for closing bug holes, damaging tougher bots, clearing weak swarms, has a lot of shots and refills off of regular ammo boxes. If I take the Crossbow or Eruptor they fill the same role so I generally take the Verdict or Dagger for crowd control up close.

I almost always take Thermite for the nade and armor with the Engineering kit for the extra nades. They destroy factories, kill tough enemies like chargers and hulks, and some reinforced turrets. Sometimes I take Incendiary Impact or Gas grenades for crowd control when fighting the Illuminate or nids and using the Eruptor.

For primary I like the Eruptor on large open maps and the Liberator Penetrator or any shotgun for any map with low visibility. The Scythe and other laser weapons on a blast on cold worlds, but I tend to play on temperate or hot worlds and they overheat a bit fast for my tastes.

Stratagems vary widely depending on the map, but in general there is at least one orbital or eagle that covers a large area for clearing bases and one turret. The Guard Dog back back is great in almost any situation if I don't want to hop around with a Jet Pack or don't take a weapon that has a backpack already. The Recoiless rifle is my favorite antitank weapon if I need one. I tend to not choose a machine gun or flamethrower since I frequently find those in points of interest.

I cannot use the railgun consistently, pretty sure my aim gets thrown off when I let off the mouse button or I'm not sitting still long enough for it to settle or something like that. Too hard to figure out what I'm doing wrong without being able to see where the shot went.
