General community for news/discussion in the UK.

Less serious posts should go in !casualuk@feddit.uk or !andfinally@feddit.uk
More serious politics should go in !uk_politics@feddit.uk.

Try not to spam the same link to multiple feddit.uk communities.
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

Can confirm the ubo custom filter method works perfectly.

Because it's client side it's gucci, but has anyone tried these UBO rules with other apps such as weddit or other sites employing KWS?

And, is this gonna be another Consent to Cookies bollocks?

Client side moderation is a Bluesky thing, I imagine this wouldn't work on Reddit et al. but that depends on how it's implemented and is going to be specific to whatever website you're accessing. Or you can just use a VPN, like the BBC put it:

When BBC News wrote about the seven methods of age verification adult websites may use in the UK and the companies who may be employed to do it, one reader comment resonated with many others.

"Sure, I will give out my sensitive information to some random, unproven company or... I will use a VPN," they said. "Difficult choice."

Thanks for that! This guide eases me.

Bluesky's implementation of age-based content restrictions is entirely client-side, this is an intentional design decision.

This simply isn't true. It doesn't go through Bluesky in any way, but you do connect to a 3rd party service. Thus it is not "entirely client-side".

I wonder what the success rate is if you verify using AI generated faces (assuming they cheap out and you dont have to provide camera access)

I wonder when they will go after the first lemmy instance and if so will they go after a bunch of them and how many instances will just say lol get fucked ofcom.

[–] Tweak@feddit.uk 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

So long as the instance isn't hosted in the UK and doesn't use any payment services, I don't think they can do anything about it. Other than maybe block the instance via ISPs, like they do with piracy stuff.

[–] Korhaka@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 week ago

Yeah, doesn't that take a while to roll out across ISPs though? So we can jump from instance to instance if necessary.
