I started a brand new Ultimate Ironman a few days ago, and have been going through the early game in the same kind of order as I'd always level new accounts, but after a bit of time afking some skills it dawned on me I should check Varlamore more thoroughly for early game content, as I'd kind of been neglecting the new continent on my main account.
This culminated today with the new release, and some stuff is crazy for ironmen in general, ultimate or not.
The wines in Aldarin are a perfect alternative to platelegs/bodies in the Wilderness, especially for Hardcores
The Wealthy Citizen in Civitas illa Fortis and the accompanying minigame is great to bridge the gap between stalls and blackjacking
Moving your house to Aldarin gives you access to infonite wines next house teleport, and quick access to a fairy ring to go to or from your house (wines being available is an even bigger deal for UIM, as going to Draynor or Polnivneach is a pain)
The new towns from Varlamore p3 all have new farming patches that are faster to get to via fairy rings/quetzal than alternatives
Auburnvale gives you access to many shops/facilities within walking distance of a fairy ring/quetzal, saving on law runes. The rune shop even stocks cosmic runes, which can now be acquired by anyone without a quest requirement/going into the Wilderness. The sawmill in Auburnvale is comically accessible. And theres a furnace and infinite wines.
The new fletching minigame is insane
You can find a small underground cellar in one of the new towns packed with imps, eliminating the chore of completing Imp Catcher
Varlamore also gives you access to many grinds to accumulate XP/resources that transition well into the mid game
Hunter rumours are way better to do early than Wintertodt. Even though it takes longer, you are training a much more valuable skill. Doing early quests to unlock teleports and such isn't detrimental anymore since you can go to Wintertodt with any amount of Hitpoints
The addition of blessed wines makes Prayer much easier to train, not having to go out of your way to risk bones in the Wilderness or grind high combats to be able to do Slayer as soon as possible. Rumours are also pretty generous in bones and shards, and thise can also be afked via calcified deposits in Cam Torum.
Perilous Moons has been out for a while, but it being a great counterpart to Barrows as a grindeable boss to acquire gear that can sustain you all the way to the start of the endgame is nothing short of revolutionary.
I'm sure there's tons of stuff I haven't really realized yet, I haven't really gone out of my way to find a cutting-edge macro efficient Ironman guide.
It seems to me like if anyone likes to plan account builds but doesn't have any nostalgia regarding the "cliche" meta of early-game account progression from yesteryears, now is the time to start anew, because so many paths are comletitive now and provide you more fun and varied ways to get an early Ironman up and running.
Happy scaping, thanks for reading my essay
