Piefed now has the ability to lock a specific comment trees from receiving more replies.

oh nice -- this is mod action right, a user can't lock their own comment for further reply.. or?

You could request that apps and frontends add block timers for problematic users.

The feature is a mod action yes.

I assume this doesn't federate well to Lemmy?

[–] rimu@piefed.social 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I didn't test it with Lemmy.

It uses the same Lock activity that Lemmy uses for posts so it would be easy for them to add.

Does it lock recursively? There's some discussion about that on the Lemmy issue for this.

[–] rimu@piefed.social 2 points 1 week ago

Yes when a comment is locked all it's children are locked too.

@poVoq@slrpnk.net

Looks like a job for fediverse mythbusters.

Update: the comments halt on the piefed end however lemmy users can see the followup comments.

There is an idea where if a comment is rejected by PieFed it would automatically send a Delete activity to remove that comment from the sending instance.

This method could be used for all kinds of blocks, not just locked comments.

It will be confusing for Lemmy users tho.
