Community rules (click to expand)

1. Follow the site-wide rules

2. Be civil
  • Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
  • Do not harrass or attack users for any reason. This includes using blanket terms, like "every user of thing".
  • Don't get baited into back-and-forth insults. We are not animals.
  • Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
  • Bigotry will not be tolerated.
  • 3. Post Linux-related content
  • Including Unix and BSD.
  • Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of sudo in Windows.
  • No porn, no politics, no trolling or ragebaiting.
  • 4. No recent reposts
  • Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, <loves/tolerates/hates> systemd, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.

  • The substance of a post should be comprehensible for people who only speak English.
  • Titles and post bodies written in other languages will be allowed, but only as long as the above rule is observed.
  • 6. (NEW!) Regarding public figuresWe all have our opinions, and certain public figures can be divisive. Keep in mind that this is a community for memes and light-hearted fun, not for airing grievances or leveling accusations.

Important: never execute code or follow advice that you don't understand or can't verify, especially here. The word of the day is credibility. This is a meme community -- even the most helpful comments might just be shitposts that can damage your system. Be aware, be smart, don't remove France.

When was the last time you saw a possessed Linux system? Don’t worry I’ll wait

    [–] Zachariah@lemmy.world 126 points 1 week ago (1 children)

my Linux has dæmons all over it

    [–] ViatorOmnium@piefed.social 54 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

The good dæmons compete with pathogenic bad dæmons, and are essential for the computer's health.

    [–] magic_lobster_party@fedia.io 32 points 1 week ago

All my Linux systems are possessed by daemons

Stupid Linux Guy doesn't realize that by installing Linux, you install even more daemons on your machine!

    [–] glitchdx@lemmy.world 34 points 1 week ago

Just because they're daemons doesn't mean they're bad or malicious. Assuming they are is racist.

    [–] Gonzako@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Nah we know its just that all the demons end up clogging up the pc portal and all of them trying to enter at once end up blocking each other

    [–] Jhex@lemmy.world 83 points 1 week ago (2 children)

You can probably configure the demon in Linux

    [–] AnIntenseMoist@lemmy.world 63 points 1 week ago (3 children)
    demonctl stop hellfire
    demonctl disable hellfire
    demonctl enable regular-fire
    demonctl start regular-fire

    demonctl set --force body-type=human horns=2 eyes=2 tongue=forked skin=red
    demonctl add --object electric-guitar
demonctl speak "play the best song in the world, or I'll eat your souls"

    Think it's ./tribute.sh iirc

Edit: removed the space between ./ and tribute.sh

    [–] pineapplelover@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You're technically right since everything is a directory in Linux. ./ is indeed for starting scripts though

How do I daemonize my demon?

    [–] Revan343@lemmy.ca 67 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Honestly TempleOS might be the way to go on this one

This is like 99% of Lemmy users.

"How do I fix this issue with my computer?"

"Have you heard of our lord and savior FOSS?"

    [–] glitchdx@lemmy.world 34 points 1 week ago (1 children)

would actually solve 90% of problems.

    [–] pivot_root@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago (11 children)

Drakeposting meme: Switching to Linux... Solve your problems? No. Exchanges them with different ones? Yes

    With Linux:

    I don't have forced updates.
I do have driver compile error when I update the kernel.

I don't have spyware recording my screen.
I don't have Discord record my screen when I want it to, either.

I don't have ads for games in my launcher.
I don't have HDR for games in my Steam library.

    Etc.

Literally saw this on Mastodon yesterday.

"How come emailing a document to myself is still the easiest way to send something to another device?"

    "Have you tried using Linux?"

    [–] BCsven@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

I mean they aren't wrong. KDE connect on phone and PC is a game changer. GS connect if you use Gnome Desktop. Not only can you send a file instantly, you can also copy your clipboard between devices, answer SMS on your PC, or have the phone pause your PC media when the phone rings. Its amazing. There is a windows version but it doesn't work properly.

I think such circumstances require TempleOS.

    it's true though, specificity TempleOS

    [–] Badabinski@kbin.earth 20 points 1 week ago (1 children)

    B-b-but TempleOS isn't Linux!

I'm inclined to believe that's normal Windows behavior at this point...

    Demons prefer FreeBSD

    [–] LostXOR@fedia.io 21 points 1 week ago

Install TempleOS to sanctify your computer and rid it of demons once and for all.

    [–] rem26_art@fedia.io 20 points 1 week ago (1 children)

FreeBSD might make sense here too with Beastie. Just lean into it

Nothing wrong with just suggesting Linux tho. And the satan part is obviously just a nice goodie of your PC.

    [–] mrbeano@lemmy.zip 9 points 1 week ago

Exactly! More proof it runs on a huge variety of hardware

    [–] bss03 19 points 1 week ago

If you install Linux properly you'll get the experience with spirits you'll need.

Linux doesn't have this? Man, I guess I'll stick with windows. That shit is metal AF.

Sounds like a standard windows 11 install to me?

The demon is Bill Gates fueled with the tormented souls of Microsoft employees that just got layed off. The solution is to print out a few Arch wiki pages and a usb stick (with Arch) and say "the power of Torvalds compels you" until the PC is once again pure. Than keep your PC pure by avoiding absolutely proprietary software and always praying to Tux for more features.

    [–] Jankatarch@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago

    Hence freebsd was born.

    [–] the_q@lemmy.zip 13 points 1 week ago

    sudo apt purge demon -y

    [–] rikudou@lemmings.world 12 points 1 week ago

Because Linux is so effective that the GPU temperature tops at 69, which is nice.

    [–] nandeEbisu@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

May the power of Ubuntu Christian Edition compel him!

    The demon is Microsoft's AI
