People who are overly proud of their heritage often have little to be proud of in their life.

Damn. Yeah.
For Vance, this is simply unacceptable. “I think the people whose ancestors fought in the Civil War,” he said, “have a hell of a lot more claim over America than the people who say they don’t belong.”
How's this for a radical point of view:
I think people whose ancestors fought for the wrong side in the Civil War have a lot less claim over America than the people who become citizens after the Civil War.
think people whose ancestors fought for the wrong side in the Civil War have a lot less claim over America than the people who become citizens after the Civil War.
I think the people who celebrate that their ancestors fought for the wrong side of the civil war have less claim on what America is and what is stands for.
Discriminating against people based solely on their relatives is unamerican. Punishing the sin for the sins of the father is a shitty philosophy.
For real, how about this.
Anyone who thinks that they have claim over a fucking country or other people because of anything their ancestors did or anyone else's ancestors did, good or bad, is out.
Be a decent person, it's not rocket surgery.
Okay but I will continue to hate the Mormons for what their ancestors did and what they now do. The number of sub cults and SovCits amongst their ranks shows they've little improved since my ancestors killed their so called pioneers, never a lot of them mind you but a couple here and there pretty sure they were written off as being consumed by the desert.
I don't think we should treat people differently based on who their ancestors were or what they believed; that's the difference between right and left.
I think we absolutely should when they specifically bring it up in an attempt to invalidate an entire other human beings citizenship. Just saying be nice and don't judge sounds nice until you realize you are losing from inaction.
I never said "be nice and don't judge." I'm saying to judge the individual, not their family history.
Take a look through my comments, you'll see a hell of a lot of judgement.
“That answer would also reject a lot of people that the ADL would label as domestic extremists,” he said — referring, without explanation, to the Anti-Defamation League — “even those very Americans” who “had their ancestors fight in the Revolutionary War and the Civil War.” For Vance, this is simply unacceptable. “I think the people whose ancestors fought in the Civil War,” he said, “have a hell of a lot more claim over America than the people who say they don’t belong.”
This is a perfect encapsulation of reactionary ideology: they see conservative identity as paramount. Many of those people's ancestors fought to get out of the United States, but he counts them as more American because of their conservative identity.
Reactionaries genuinely believe that they should get more rights simply because of who they are. They are fighting for a highly regimented society where you get better treatment from the government based on how conservative you are.
Just more racism, add it to the pile
So a couch fucker thinks he's superior because of his hillbilly heritage?
Because his skin is white. I really wonder what his wife and kids think about these views
Absolutely. My ancestors lived in what in now the US for millennia. Magat Coulter said whitey didn't commit a violent enough genocide. In my experience, "I was here first" bullshit always breaks down to "I am white."
Dude just say its because you're white
My ancestors goe back to the colonies before the United states existed., and through first nations Before.
Doesn't mean fuck all. An accident of birth does not elevate a person past another.
This is some straight up "pure blood royal" bullshit.
JD Vance is and always was a classist prick who enjoys looking down on people he considers beneath him. Dude work a book about it.
Tiered living is exactly what all of this looks like all the time, with shitty people making flimsy excuses why others don't deserve what they do.
Fuck this clickbait title.
