i haven't had mine for over a decade, but tivo completely ruined ordinary 'tv' for me. it finished the job the vcr started back in the 80s, aided by greedy networks greatly increasing ad time per hour over the last few decades (10 min per hour was the norm when i was a kid--now it's 20+)
