The sheriff said the cellphone camera footage from inside the car “does not comprehensively capture the circumstances surrounding the incident.”

Bullshit.

As always, ACAB.

[–] masterofn001@lemmy.ca 68 points 1 week ago (1 children)

And they punch like a bitch.

Lol.

Guy was calm as could be and bitchcop suckers him for absolutely no reason.

Guy took it like it was a kiss from bitchcops' mom.

[–] audaxdreik@pawb.social 61 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Dude handled it like an absolute champ, but the sad thing is, he knows being black it's his only option. You saw how they treated him for absolutely nothing, now imagine how much they would've escalated had he done a single damn thing more ...

[–] JoeBigelow@lemmy.ca 53 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Which is why I don't understand where the fucking 2025 equivalent to the black Panthers are. This was the whole point, follow cops with guns and make them uncomfortable abusing black citizens.

[–] masterofn001@lemmy.ca 28 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The CIA took care of that with drugs and gangs.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 26 points 1 week ago (1 children)

reagan did the most damage, he was the reason for amssive gun control in california, he was scared of the black panthers, being the racist he is.

[–] andros_rex@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Its difficult to not feel chills watching this scene from Panther.

But yeah the US was very happy to violently put down any form of organized black resistance. (fun fact: the bodies of the children who died in the MOVE bombing were donated to universities, without their families’ knowledge or consent)

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Almost like they wanted him to make any kind of move so they could escalate it...

[–] rc__buggy@sh.itjust.works 25 points 1 week ago

That and the following quotes are just over the top. The cop states it so plainly I can just hear how he actually believes this. It's not the same reality I live in.

How does having your headlights off on a cloudy day justify forcing a motorist out of their vehicle?

“Part of that stems from the distance and perspective of the recording cell phone camera,” the sheriff said in a statement, adding that the video did not capture events that occurred before officers decided to arrest McNeil.

Yeah, because they were still in their car when they decided to arrest him for no reason.

[–] BrianTheeBiscuiteer@lemmy.world 63 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Prior events shouldn't matter. There's zero cause to punch a suspect that isn't an immediate threat.

[–] Bluefalcon@discuss.tchncs.de 20 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Someone grab the Family Guy meme so we can show how much of a threat he was.

[–] Revan343@lemmy.ca 30 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] Bluefalcon@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 1 week ago

I feel we need to update it though. Like at top should be " He was a great father and loved god!"

The bottom should be "STOP RESISTING AND PUT THE GUN DOWN!"

Well, you see, it was a combination of him being black.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

This is why cops in my region have body cams; and "my cam wasn't on" or "my cam broke at just the right time" is a very bad look.

But they don't use it to make sure they don't mess up: they're using it to show they did everything right, so someone was advised of their rights, the state of everything is known, etc.

But, not in America. American Cops Are (I'm guessing) Bastards.

[–] A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Body/Dash cams not being on/conveniently blocked/pointed the wrong way should be criminal offenses warranting at least 5 years in prison.

because there is zero reason to play games with body/dash cams unless you are planning to do something malicious you dont want evidence of.

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.dbzer0.com 71 points 1 week ago (2 children)

They try to claim he reached for a knife on the floor, the video is pretty clear in the fact that he is no threat and isn't reaching for anything from before the window is broken till after he is dragged out.

[–] Tarquinn2049@lemmy.world 59 points 1 week ago (2 children)

In fact, it's very clear his entire intent is to try to make it impossible for them to claim he was reaching for something. And they still claimed it... like, if he had complied and reached to take off his seatbelt, they probably would have shot him...

[–] theacharnian@lemmy.ca 30 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Yea but did you notice he's black? What are they supposed to do? Not brutalize him?

Cameras “can only capture what can be seen and heard,” the sheriff added.

Don't believe your lying eyes.

[–] bob_lemon@feddit.org 17 points 1 week ago
[–] MiddleAgesModem@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Meaning they get to lie their asses off.

[–] Aspharr@lemmy.world 32 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Talk about a bunch of dudes with fragile egos getting their feelings hurt because the man has the gaul to question their authority and demand their supervisor. That's such limp dick behavior and is a fucking disgrace. Even if the cops were in the right for pulling him over (not having your headlights on? Really?) that's just ridiculous.

[–] Dearth@lemmy.world 32 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Headlights off at 4pm on an overcast day. Not raining, not even misty. Just overcast.

People saying the victim deserved it because her didn't act like a "perfect victim" are soft between the ears

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 1 week ago

Well, they're racists

[–] PalmTreeIsBestTree@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It’s also in the middle of summer too rn when the sun doesn’t set until 9pm.

[–] DBT@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

This happened in February, but it is clearly still light out. Cop said they should be on because of the weather anyways (that he must’ve been imagining), not because it was dark.

Gall*, Gaul would be the region of Western Europe conquered by Rome (to put it simply).

I'm sorry, I just used to type it like this too. Carry on.

Dudes gonna make bank when this goes to trial. But I hope those bitch ass pigs go to jail and get fired.

[–] MiddleAgesModem@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

Nope, as usual, tax payers will pay and cops face no repercussions.

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 26 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] SoleInvictus@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 1 week ago

He was clearly guilty of a DWB.

[–] ChaoticEntropy@feddit.uk 17 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That'll teach him to... checks notes turn off his headlights in between rain downpours... such a wanton criminal.

[–] ZMonster@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Wait, he's a dumpling thief??? What is the world coming to?

[–] Dezzillion@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago
[–] DetectiveNo64@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Once they're done rounding up all the brown people, I'm guessing black is next.

Cops casually assaulting people for no real reason has become the norm. 30 years ago that would have been a crime.

[–] ChaoticEntropy@feddit.uk 20 points 1 week ago (3 children)

30 years ago...? 30 years ago they wouldn't have been on camera doing it, you'd just never know it happened.

Boy do I have some ~~good~~ terrible news for you...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rodney_King

It's getting better but it's still horrible, we need to reform policing as a whole in this country (USA).

[–] mic_check_one_two@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

30 years ago it would have happened more frequently and simply wouldn’t have been reported on. The BIPOC community has known for generations that cops are oppressors who use violence as their primary form of communication. The advent of phone cameras has simply allowed it to be recorded and broadcast often enough to enter white peoples’ zeitgeist.

This is nothing new, and 30 years ago nothing would have been done about it. Hell, 60-70 years ago, the cops would have been joined by an angry mob, and the dude would have been lynched just because the crowd wanted some entertainment. The 1950s and ‘60s weren’t that long ago. Trump’s entire generation was born and raised when segregation was still the norm, and Jim Crowism was expected.

Is there a video from source not built by one of these Florida cop's retarded nephews?

[–] MattTheProgrammer@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

stop using "retarded" as a slur.

Presumably the video is shot from a dashcam?
