Hello,

quite new to the world of HA, but I've successfully set up some Tradfri LEDs and integrated my Valetudo robot to.

I've got a RP4 with a Sonoff dongle, and use ZHA to integrate all my devices.

Now, whenever I try to add the IKEA Styrbar remote control, it does get added to the device list, but no information about battery, nor firmware is displayed. Also, ZHA does not registrate any infos sent from the device, when clicking a button on it, nor does the β€œidentify” command does anything recognizable on the device itself.

I've searched the internet for a bit, and for some it has worked by switchting to zigbee2mqtt. I've tried adding the device there with the same result: It does get recognized, but no information is received by the remote or from the remote.

I'm currently in the process of trying to manually update the firmware, but there is only one link to one firmware version, so I've found, and it's from 2023, the newest firmware for the Styrbar should be from August 2024.

So, did you happen to also have similar trouble with this particular device? Is it a good idea to manually flash the firmware? Do you know where I can find the newest firmware?

Thank you all! :-)

Edit: This comment by @swizzlestick@lemmy.zip led me to update my Sonoff ZBDongle-P from its 2021 firmware. After removing the remote from ZHA and adding it back again, everything works like a charm. Sometimes it's the easy thing you miss, so never get annoyed by questions like: "Did you try turning it off and on again?" 😁

I use 2 of them with Zigbee2MQTT using this coordinator. It takes a while to interview (get basic information) them, but they work. My suggestion is to switch to Z2M (more control over devices/Zigbee network), and if the issues persist RMA the devices. I've done it a few times - Ikea simply sent me replacements, that why makes them better than off-brand Zigbee devices from China.

I have a couple of Styrbar remotes, but I have connected them through the IKEA gateway and use the IKEA integration instead. So maybe they use some zigbee quierks, that ZHA is not aware of, for the battery level and firmware. I have not seen a firmware update for mine (I've had them a couple of years).

What dongle exactly and have you updated the firmware on that?

I have an old conbee II & they pair up just fine. I use a blueprint to take action on the zha events they fire when buttons are pressed.

Thank you, updating the firmware was the issue. Added this to the Original Post. :-)

As Sonoff doesn't seem to offer invoices, I'm not sure if it is a ZBDongle-P or -E, but I will check out updating its firmware, good thinking!

I've been using Styrbar remotes with ZHA and ConBee II USB stick. At some point I had an issue with some new device and had to upgrade the ConBee firmware, but I don't remember which one. Probably the old ikea motion sensor.

Please be aware that there has been some major regression in styrbar firmware released last year. Not sure if all the issues are fixed by now.
