Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:

Great. Now do so while cutting, then eliminating fossil fuel use.

Oddly enough that’s what they appear to be doing.

No one is cutting fossil fuel use. Renewables is on top of other sources.

I was reading that EV take up has flattened China’s petroleum use. There is a bit of light in there this sad story.

Which really just means the world could do better, it just chooses not to.

Politics, money, selfishness and comfort mean we will need things to get a lot worse before the masses take the problem seriously. Until then we will have to do what we can. At least growth in fossils has been contained somewhat.

Absolutely everyone with half a brain is cutting fossil fuels. Spain just a few months ago got 100% renewable energy on a weekday. It won’t be very many years until they are fully renewable at all times. And they aren’t the only ones in Europe who are working towards that goal, because all EU countries have to by law reach at least 42% renewable energy by 2030, and after that the goal will be 100%.

You aren't doing anyone any favours by pleading misleading information. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that it was just a mistake and not deliberately misleading.

Generating ELECTRICITY from renewables, even 100%, has little to nothing to do with cutting emissions. Electricity is a fraction of a country's total energy mix.

Using your example of Spain who is a leader in renewables is still getting about

About 66% of total energy from fossil fuels. Their oil refining is up 3% this year.

For what it's worth, I consider Europe a leader in emissions reductions. My comments are more about debunking misleading statements such as yours and to help people recognize how far we have to go and how little time there is.

Please choose your words more carefully. False narratives are a big part of our problem.
