**It's supposed to be pronounced "Guy-den", but most people were mispronouncing it "Gay-den" back in the day.

Raiden is their oldest. He was away at ~~college~~ HVAC school when this picture was taken.

Edit: It seems obvious after it was pointed out - Raiden is destined to be one of the greatest HVAC technicians. Good correction.

Is it no longer spelled Rayden?

I thought it was always spelled Raiden, found this on Wikipedia and when the article says “this way” that means with an AI instead of a Y

Raiden's name was spelled this way in all of the original arcade games and in every game since Mortal Kombat 4. However, the PC and console ports released until Mortal Kombat Trilogy, along with both movies and the TV series, changed the name to "Rayden", fearing the original spelling would lead to trademark issues from Seibu Kaihatsu's shoot 'em up game Raiden. Ed Boon personally hated that Acclaim spelled it with a Y.

Huh, I guess I played the console versions and internalized that his name was supposed to be spelled weird, never noticing when they changed it back.

I always thought it was Raiden too to the point I didn't realize there was a Rayden spelling. Sounds like a fabric or non stick coating. Mean I didn't play a ton of Mortal Kombat but knew, what I think was Scorpions finisher (?) in MK1 on Genesis, Start up up? Probably forgetting but that's the only one I could remember enough to use back in it's time...in the early 90s it was nothing short of fantastic to see them, even without the blood code for Genesis.

Of cause people will assume all names of your children rhyme when 3 already do, duh

It's also Juy-den and Auy-den.

I follow you so far but Bruy-den? Really?

If Braiden: Yes.

If else: No

I don’t care how it’s “supposed” to be pronounced. You’ll never get me to say it “Gooey-den”, no matter how hard you try!

I do say Guy-den, because I was exposed to other media with the word first, but saying Gay-den is a mark of a high-class individual.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I said "Gay-den" until the movie The Wizard revealed I was pronouncing it wrong.

[–] VerilyFemme@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 3 weeks ago
