Amazon bought Ring in 2018 and the enshitification has been coming for years, just another reason to ditch all Ring cameras.

In that case, I'd create a second wireless network that doesn't have internet access to keep it all in-house under my control.

All IoT devices should be on their own LAN segment already with no WAN access. It’s the first rule of having IoT devices. If you need remote access, VPN securely. There is no other way to do it safely.

If you use ‘em end-to-end encrypt the storage and transmission. You lose some features but at least it makes hijacking them more inconvenient.

Yeah, my house has Wyze cams, and it very much wasn't up to me, and I was still pissed about it before I saw this article. Yes, I'm pissed'er now.

Sounds like you have more faith they're not likely to follow suit than I do.

Depending on your specific Wyze cameras, you can literally make them local only and never need to send back to Wyze servers. https://robsears.com/wyze-cam-v2-rtsp-iptables/

Edit: actually, looks like it’s officially supported for v3 as well. https://support.wyze.com/hc/en-us/articles/360051619871-Does-Wyze-Cam-v3-support-RTSP

So yeah, completely different ball game. If Wyze ever does anything you don’t like you can just turn your cameras into cameras you control completely.
