Recently I was trying to find a movie from 1990.
Now, it is a niche area (chinese martial arts movie for the most part, but even within that a smaller sub-genre), so I don't expect that many seeders to have it.
However had, looking at piratebay, I found only very few matches, and barely anyone seeding. And even trying to use piratebay took me a while before I found a good proxy. That was different some years ago; it almost seems as if piratebay died.
I am not saying this is representative, but I have had a few issues with this before, in the past - say, past 12 months or so. My general impression is that torrents kind of died down or dried out - perhaps not so much for mainstream stuff, but often I am not interested in that (I no longer watch modern movies either, because they are usually just some copy/paste CGI crap, and now with AI on the rise, this will only get worse - the quality really died).
Have torrents been on the decline in general? If so, is there hope that they will ever get a revival or are they done for?
I remember having used torrents a lot when I was younger. Admittedly, I am no longer that interested in movies in general, for various reasons, and youtube kind of also killed a lot of my appetite for new movies; I just watch old stuff too or just have background music there while multitasking. Perhaps the pattern of use changed for other folks too.
