Yes, it's me, same person as @Elevator7009sAlt@ani.social, just from a different instance.

I watched a friend play and it seems interesting. I know some other people who do not want to play because the vibes they get are that it makes fun of VN players, and they do not want to be the butt of the joke, and I respect that although I also do genuinely like the content of this VN. What do you think?

If they can't appreciate a little bit of light joking then they really need to take a step back and figure that shit out, because that's not normal or healthy.

Romance VN parodies are very common, and they seldom show any respect for the genre or the playerbase (Just think of the dozen dating sims/ fake dating sim announcements that pop up every year for april fools) So people are understandably a bit hesitant when a game with a concept like Date Everything shows up. I thought it was a parody game as well and kept away from it.

There are "light jokes" I do not appreciate either, but it does not affect my day to day in a negative way for more than a few minutes. All they did was opt out of the game and mention their feelings on this once. I am not too happy about them being called "not normal or healthy" right now but I'll probably forget this conversation in a few minutes after I type it.

I think people on the internet take any disapproval or dislike of a joke as "omg so triggered!!!" and think someone will be upset for days… and I get it, because it's not really fun to have someone point out problems and seem to be "ruining the fun." But "wow, offended much???" is a really easy way to just dismiss others' points. I hope you are coming from a genuine place of care and not from "omg so triggered!!!" I was just explaining their view and I feel defensive of them for people having this assessment of them online. Then again, all I'm presenting is their viewpoint on this VN, and not all the other ways they live their life as a normally functioning person who just happened to get upset about something you did not. (And yes, I know you never used any of these words and I am using much harsher words that get used to express "wow too sensitive" that you did not use at all.)

Really wasn't expecting the "too sensitive" argument on Lemmy.

Unfortunately people seem to take any sort of criticism hard these days. Even light joking or in-joking. Which is a bit sad. My friend group made merciless fun of each other and almost all of us are still friends.

I think it depends on personal temperament. Someone can be sensitive and still not a bad person, but according to the internet being not fun in that manner makes you a bad person… just because your friend group enjoyed that (and more power to you!) does not mean everyone will, and I do not think it is such a horrible thing that not every group is okay with making fun of each other. Most people probably have preferences or sensitivities or things that bother them that other people would go "lol so weird" or "toughen up lmao" or "so oversensitive" to you about. I figure it is only decent to respect others' sensitivities instead of criticizing them on them if I don't want people to turn around and insult me on mine. Live and let live.

I'm defending this take specifically because I am trusting their take since they play VNs way more than me and are probably a lot more familiar with that community. And according to them VN parody games are made less as a loving tongue-in-cheek thing and more as "LMAO you pathetic nerds" thing and after it being repeated it's kind of tiring to be the butt of the joke all the time.

The only thing it's proven to me is that people are A-OK with "being horny on main".
