Seed Swap

2 users here now

Have extra seeds? Starting a new garden? Looking for a specific plant you can’t find anywhere else? This is the community for you.

Rules:

  1. Conduct:
    • Follow lemmy.world rules (https://legal.lemmy.world/tos)
    • This is an inclusive community; please be respectful of others.
    • Keep posts on the topic of the community - broadening our gardens’ variety.
  2. Posting Limits: Please limit posts to once a week. Posts can be updated to indicate seeds no longer available, or seeds received, and Lemmy’s search should allow for people finding your posts.
  3. No Selling: Community is for swapping seeds with others, not selling. Asking for someone to provide a method of receiving seeds in lieu of a swap (e.g. self-addressed stamped envelope, SASE) is acceptable.

If you have questions/comments/suggestions, feel free to message the mod(s).

I decided to create this community because I didn’t see one already. I had hoped to trade seeds with others, and it’s getting close to the time of year where we’re harvesting seeds, or planting late-season crops (in the northern hemisphere, anyway). Hopefully others will see value in this community.

Great to see someone else interested in this! !plantswap@mander.xyz already exists, but there's room for a seeds-only community too. :)

I love this idea.

But -- I don't see anything anywhere about locations? If you're going to do swaps, don't you need to be within the same geographical area as the person you swap with? So it would be important that either the community is based within a single region, or each post includes a general location.

Otherwise you're doing it by mail, but that involves giving an address to internet randoms which is generally not wise. Not to mention issues with customs if people are in different countries.

(Apologies if I've missed something already posted addressing this.)
