Just browsing the wiki and newly interacting with it myself, I've noted a ton of things operate differently in the Wilderness vs. the rest of Geilinor. A few things I've noted below.
Gear:
Dinh's Bulwark damage reduction doesn't work; Justiciar set effect doesn't work
Powered staves (Trident, Warped Sceptre, Sanguinesti Staff, Tumeken's Shadow) do not work
Serpentine helm does not venom players
Toxic blowpipe has a 4 tick attack speed instead of 3 tick
UI:
Spell icons do not increase in size like they can outside the wilderness
The autocast setting does not remember your selected spell if you change weapons, even if you have the runes still in inventory
Combat types:
Singles+ exists in some areas. This just means Player A can attack Player B, even if Player B is already engaged in a fight with an NPC.
Looting:
If anything is dropped on the ground, everyone can see it immediately.

This also doesn't detail tons of fringe mechanics like the buffer zones outside of Ferox Enclave, attacking across the lines of a single/multi zone, etc.

Question:
My question is literally just why? Why does it have to be that way for SO MANY things?
I understand the explanation for some things, like powered staves - being able to attack with a Shadow and freeze with ancients at the same time would be a crazy thing to handle in PvP. But I don't understand it for other things - why is it necessary that icons in the mage book don't resize to be larger like they do outside the wilderness?
