I've been very lucky with managers, this sounds like a nightmare. How do they have time for that?

If your managers only job is to micromanage you, your manager doesn't have an actual job and is just babysitting you for money, and you're probably in a shitty organization that doesn't know how to manage personnel.

I've had multiple jobs where my boss didn't have time to look over my shoulder because they were too busy doing their own work to bother the team as long as everyone is pulling their weight (and tend to come down like a ton of bricks when they have to do management shit instead of their job because you fucked up again, Matt).

It's so nice to work for orgs that resect me as an employee enough to let me do my job in peace.

I literally didn't meet my last direct supervisor for a year or more after i started. Great dude, kept everyone off our backs.

Even better! He’s a micro manager, but he isn’t actually a manager. He’s just convinced he should have a finger in everything and always be listened to because he’s been there forever.

because he’s been there forever

Alternatively: because he's new and people should appreciate this wise outsider's perspective

Manager wants to cut the 30 minute daily meeting because we keep ending it 15 minutes early.
