So often I find myself writing out a long comment before going "you know what, never mind".

Probably for the best. I like participating in discussions, but this is the internet. You're more likely to get a bunch angry replies than a discussion.

I've been pleasantly surprised on Lemmy. I certainly do get asshole replies sometimes, but far less frequently than on reddit. Probably because there are far less people, which is fine by me.

Yeah it's like, do I actually have something meaningful to share or am I just high on caffeine

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa yes

You misspelled amphetamine.

Tangentially… I commented on a couple political posts on a popular corporate social media platform. The posts aligned with my political stance. Within 24 hours my feed was littered with batshit stupid right-wing lies and trolls.

It is far better to not comment. Reality might have a left leaning bias, but popular online social media has a right-wing algorithm.

Yeah when there are algorithms at play to keep your attention you really need to be careful how you participate. I'd rather just not though.

B-but you don't understand! Somebody is wrong on the Internet!

[–] TempermentalAnomaly@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Not just wrong... Confidently wrong.

[–] some_random_nick@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

It could be anyone. Even you!

Picture a middle school cafeteria. That's close to the representation of who is in the comment sections. I'm sure of it. Maybe there's a teacher or two, the janitor, the person serving lunch. The adults generally have their mind elsewhere. The majority of users are going to be kids.

think about the engagement though

I've learned I can't make any comment that is negative about AI or else the dbzer0 nutbags will appear.

I will seriously consider if it's worth getting swarmed by assholes with bad-faith arguments that all support each other's insane logic.

[–] peteypete420@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I always feel like if I mention anything less than a daming curse upon AI I get swarmed and downvoted.

Dont get me wrong it has problems and way too much hype and use, but its a pretty neat tool.

Anyway heres a comment and updoot.

AI... maybe nuanced?

gets torn to shreds and eaten alive by literally everyone
