One of my early builds was a sensor package for the front porch. It includes temperature, humidity, motion, and light with more to be added over time.
The motion sensor was put in place for the control of a large WLED strip if someone is leaving or coming home after dark. Basically it switches from a light show to a bright white light for locking or unlocking the door and feeling safe coming in or out to the front yard.
An added benefit was since I already had a motion sensor during the daytime I could flash a light inside to let us know someone (or something, caught a bunch of cats as well) is on the porch. The dog has taken this as her cue to look it the window and bark. For some reason the delivery personnel seem to really hotfoot it to their vehicles or have started dropping packages on a column near the porch instead of at the front door like they used to.
And yes it's the light because I can flash it in a similar fashion and the dog will alert. I have created a monster...
