Debian and Linux always were political and the free software movement itself is inherently left leaning. Debian has problems with attracting new contributors due to it being fucking mess. At the same time insane amount of unnecessary documentation that you need to know (look up debian policy manuals), and extremely bad and fragmented tooling, and unreasonable defaults that make no sense, and packages patched for no reason, and packages that are outdated by decade and that's by 'intention'.
