I'm a federal employee being required to work during the shutdown (if it happens). I have a critical public safety related job. I'll probably get paid when it's all over. However, I have a lot of coworkers that are really getting fucked

Because I hate hearing about bourgeois bullshit I haven't been paying attention to congressional news. Well, now they got my attention. What the hell is going on over there?

GOP wants to cut funding to a bunch of shit, including Ukraine, and do some fucked shit at the border. They seem pretty split on it though. I assume the Dems will cave eventually and they will compromise soon. idk tho, I haven't been following it that closely.

It always amazes me that the US has a system where if the government fails to do the one thing it has to do, they just close it.

It doesn't have to, they could just pass a bill that it would automatically renew the year before's if they don't reach a new agreement in time. They do this so they can have these dramatic little fights.

This is how Canada and the UK function. I imagine it's why the political fights are marginally less dumb.

Yeah, and the GOP wants cuts from that funding so they won't do it. The whole system just creates a terrible opportunity for this shit to happen again and again though.

I was almost right. I told my wife it was probably a fight over whether we should focus on emisserating Russian workers or emisserating Chinese workers. I forgot about our Mexican and Central American comrades. I'll try to do better.

Edit: my wife can't listen to bourgeois news either.
