I downloaded the first 10 seasons of the Doctor Who revival at 1080p as mp4 files that were encoded with 8-bit color depth. Then I found the series in mkv files with 10-bit color depth also at 1080p, which suggests that they are better. But these files are smaller in size and have a lower bitrate.

I used mediainfo to get the general info of one of the 2009 specials for comparison. Which of these should I go for? I'm new to comparing videos like this, sorry if it's a simple question.

I've tried comparing the actual videos, but I've done it so many times I'm not sure if the differences are just in my head. All I can tell is that the mkv one has more vivid colors, but I don't mind sacrificing that for better visual quality.
