So you’re a termite?
“…uhhh totally.”
What do we like to eat?
“Stuff and wood and junk.”
Okay good enough.

This is some Pokemon shit.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 36 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Pokemon is really just some real animal kingdom shit.

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 15 points 1 month ago (1 children)

And not even like…“but cuter!”. Japan has some insanely cute critters.

Oh... we were supposed to drop our evidence? Very well...

Shima Enaga (long tailed bushtit / snowfairy)

Rosefinch

Tanuki

Fire bellied newt

Their honey bee

and for the weirdos.. the murder hornet... ( i wouldn't call these fuckers cute, but I'm sure somebody does. Their moms, maybe.)

Far from exhaustive, but eh, these are my favorite Pokémon. (Okay so murder hornets are ugly, but they’re murderous!)

long tailed bushtit

So this is what perfection sounds like

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

the various common names of birds have convinced me that ornithologists are mostly horny perverts that have spent too much time alone in the woods.

Tanuki is Zigzagoon! Right? It's gotta be.

[–] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

where are there honey bees that don't look like that?

also might want to scale the hornet image down, that could share the shit out of someone

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Sorry, this might freak you outBut those fuckers are freaking huge.

[–] Spacehooks@reddthat.com 1 points 1 month ago

Thank you! never saw something of these and now my life is changed for the better.

[–] Sasnak@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 month ago

I immediately thought of mimikyu!

[–] Spacehooks@reddthat.com 45 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Just a fellow creature. Nothing suspicious here. snacks please.

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

... And it was at that moment that I realized he was a three story tall monster from the Paleolithic era!

FUCK OFF NESSIE

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 37 points 1 month ago

I think we have one of those in the Office of President of the United States of America

[–] NessD@lemmy.world 32 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The wild thing is: These are hundreds of mutations of several generations that happened randomly until it looked like this.

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I want to know how it even started. Like, what was its equivalent of a half eye so that the termites would start feeding it?

It's wild that the benefits of this outweigh the cost of making it enough to stick around.

"You get free food for life but you gotta wear this giant yellow foam cowboy hat and never take it off. Even to shower"

[–] Boxscape@lemmy.sdf.org 28 points 1 month ago

Disguise skill level: Agent 47

[–] ummthatguy@lemmy.world 25 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Getting Vincent Adultman vibes.

[–] dditty@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 month ago

How do you do fellow termites?

[–] supersquirrel@sopuli.xyz 16 points 1 month ago

wonder if I could seduce your mom that way

[–] Doom@ttrpg.network 13 points 1 month ago (2 children)

says a lot of how insects identify each other

[–] flora_explora@beehaw.org 6 points 1 month ago

Yes, that's what I wondered, too. In ant nest parasites they usually are visually very different from the ants, but get the pheromones right. In this example here, visual clues have to be important for the beetle to have evolved such a sophisticated mimicry.

[–] squaresinger@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (2 children)

That's what happens if you only have access to a handful of brain cells.

[–] Doom@ttrpg.network 3 points 1 month ago

my mom has some of those

[–] lagoon8622@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago

As evidenced by homo sapiens

[–] altphoto@lemmy.today 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Must be desperate. Imagine the millions of dead bugs trying to get fed by termites. One after the other failing to be a convincing termite. Until finally the perfect one was born.

[–] brown567@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 month ago

That's so freaking cool

[–] iAvicenna@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

Hey bro, I am not a beggar bro. I am just carrying this termite to the hospital. Can you give some food for the road bro, promise I am not a beggar.

[–] frezik@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 month ago

Evolution: I'm winning it.

[–] catty@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Imagine if incels grew kittens on their back to lure lonely women...
