If you take a pet to the vet for euthanasia, go with them into the room where the vet ends their pain. The vet's office is a strange and unsettling place, so your pet will be afraid. Holding them in your lap will make their last moments more comfortable. (For 100+ pound Rottweilers, hold their head in your lap.)

Yup. I know a lady who held her son's hand while the doctors turned off his life support. I know OF soldiers who have watched their comrades die on the battle field. Every month or three I read a meme on Facebook from army nurse; "We kiss their forehead and tell them they're going to be fine. Then they die."

With rare exception (see above) it's the most painful situation you'll ever be in, emotionally. (Physically, no; I once ran three fingers through a table saw. I'd be happy to hold a week's worth of dogs and cats to avoid doing that again.) You can do it. It's the right thing to do.
