Howdy! Just wanted to share my process for using Home Assistant to make a fun little escape room in my apartment. I'm a game designer and thought it'd be fun to use my smart technology to hide clues and set the scene for an immersive puzzle room that my friends could enjoy, so I did!

I mostly focused on the visual interactions, largely setting light colors, blinking lights, etc to grab attention and set the tone. I also used the HACS Eufy integration to get my vacuum cleaner to roll back, beep, and reveal a clue (by basically just turning it on, pausing it and restarting it a few times, then having it re-dock). I also used voice assistant integration to let my Echo trigger automations when prompted by players, which was fun.

The biggest hurdle was getting folks to be able to call webhooks from their phones to trigger all the automations, so I just used a QR/NFC to let them connect to my wifi, then I used Samba to access the /www/ folder in my Home Assistant server to host my custom HTML pages. Those pages use JS to post the webhooks when they scan NFC/QR throughout the puzzle, keeping everything local and more secure. I'm so happy with how it all turned out!

The full development retrospective is here on my YouTube, in case anyone's curious!
