Zohran Mamdani declared victory in New York City’s Democratic mayoral primary Tuesday night after Andrew Cuomo conceded the race in a stunning upset, as the young, progressive upstart built a substantial lead over the more experienced but scandal-scarred former governor.

"Oh noez! Our strategy of pointing at the far right and saying 'Us or you'll be sorry,' is starting to falter. Quick! Let's move further to the right!"

That's literally not what's happening here. Nobody is talking about moving to the right, the concern here is that the party, at least in New York, seems to be moving to the far left.

It's almost as if that's what the people want, but the gripe with the DNC is that they keep trying to push for neoliberals. That's why there is "division" in the party. They're trying to keep the dominance of "moderates" even though that's not what the people seem to want.

And in the face of all that, Democrats as a whole are constantly referred to as "Marxist leftists" by conservative media... It's laughable.

It wouldn't surprise me at all that this is what New Yorkers want, but progressivism still makes up for the minority of the electorate. Leftism isn't that popular.

I suspect here that Mamdani won mostly because he's up against two former mayors who refused to do anything about the problems they're now promising to fix, and people are ready for a change, not that they're socialists. I know it's New York, but I'd like to give them a bit of charitability.

Wrong. The people are moving to the Left. And not the Far Left. Just regular Left.

The Party will stay to the Center Right.

What people? Do you have a study or stat that backs this up?

Been awhile since I looked up stats but what I see tends to indicate that Gen Z is increasingly partisan, but are increasingly right wing, in comparison to boomers, who are overwhelmingly left wing.

I would suggest that we need to refer to the Democrats as center left... Yes, of course, they are more fiscally conservative and hawkish than their European counterparts, but they are probably ahead of some of them even in terms of social policy when it comes to how left they are....

I know it's frustrating for very far left people to think of themselves as outside of the mainstream, but once upon a time radicals wore that as a badge of honor..!
