and end up not making the community? I do all the time. I have a lot of fun ideas for communities, but I then begin to doubt ppl will even use them so i just scrap everything.

Yep. Also remembering that I leave things unfinished all the time, I just come to realization that it's probably not worth it.

When starting a community, especially on Lemmy, you have to be the main poster (who regularly dishes out content) in order to attract people, and even when you gather enough people, you have to keep it from dying, especially if it's a niche community.
It is a commitment.

Yup, very true. I've noticed sub count rises the more i post, but ppl never step in to post. It's like I'm the only one and that gets tiring

i feel like communities should be pressure-induced. if there isnt a set of users/content looking for a home, why would you make it?

when subreddits were first created, it helped sort the noise inherent in the monolithic model. but the noise of competing content existed.. it needed sorting.

That's a GREAT point. Wow, makes total sense. I think im done creating communities unless there's a need for it. Cause its tough keeping them all up by oneself
