So will the cashiers still need to salute them and say "thank you for your service" when these faux Lt. Col. come asking for their military discount?

But but but... USA swore their country was different from China and the companies aren't in bed with the government.

The US really is different. In China, companies have to listen to the CCP lest it gets seized by the state and its owners disappeared. In the US the government listens to its corporate donors and now even rewards them with high ranking military positions.
