Panel - Can the Fediverse uphold and strengthen democracy, information and solidarity in Europe?
We live in “interesting times”. Democratic values are under pressure, tech has
become political, and well-known Big Tech social media platforms are hotbeds of
disinformation, hate-speech and in full control of the broligarchy to enhance
their message & interests. Luckily, we have the Fediverse!?
Can the Fediverse help us uphold democratic values, stay informed, enable
collaboration, communication, and unite activists, citizens, civil and civic
society in Europe? What is the role of Social Society in this? Can organisations
and policy makers contribute to the last stronghold of decentralised democratic
social media? Or are we asking too much from the Fedizens? What is the role of
our politicians, representatives, legislation and the enforcement of the
judicial agreements in all of this? What examples should we look at for
inspiration and guidance?
In this panel, we dive deeper into the Fediverse and its possibilities for
becoming the online town square, facilitating societal debate and informal
exchanges between citizens.
