Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

"Commit terrorism!" LOL memes are great these days! /s

[–] Liljekonvalj@feddit.org 3 points 9 months ago

The meaning of terrorism is someone who uses terror to get their political agenda across, no?

[–] thedruid@lemmy.world 63 points 9 months ago

Just notice that when these Trumper nazis with guns were actually confronted by those who fought back, they ran.

My title would be proud boys get stiffys while posting violence fetish fantasies online from their parents basements.

Can anyone think of a case where opening fire on unarmed citizens actually caused unrest to die down? Because I can't think of a single case. Even in Russia, the Russian Revolution of 1905 was sparked off by firing on civilians.

In every case I can think of it made things worse for whoever was in charge. Aren't there any counterexamples?

[–] Fusselwurm@feddit.org 2 points 9 months ago

This article is from Friday. It doesn't make it entirely irrelevant, but keep it in mind and take the fear element of it with a grain of salt. Proud Boys are all talk.

[–] Nusm@piefed.zip 28 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I mean to be honest, they’re not Proud Men.

[–] Goretantath@lemmy.world 7 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Over the weekend at least one car drove through a No Kings protest (in NC I think), at least one person was killed in a shooting at a protest (in UT), two Democratic politicians were shot in MN (one killed). This is more than just talk.

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 5 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

To be fair, the person shot & killed at the march was an accident trying to stop a shooter, and the kid who drove the car hurt at most one person who didn't need emergency services. The one with a real agenda was the killer dressed as a cop who had delusions of killing 50+ without realizing he'd be hunted down and caught after the first.

Yes, they're getting violent, and yes, they have plans, but don't give them any more credit than they deserve and scare people. Don't over- or underestimate your enemy.

[–] ZephyrXero@lemmy.world 27 points 9 months ago (1 children)

History shows that the public will side against the group they perceive to be the most violent. So let's let them get that fame before we start firing back

[–] HasturInYellow@lemmy.world 6 points 9 months ago (3 children)

Not disagreeing necessarily, but it feels really bad to voluntarily sacrifice human lives so that we can build good will with the public.

It's a matter of perspective and who would die if such and such happened vs this other thing.

As the old saying goes, the ends justify the means, right?

They’re going to wear “Yes Kings” t-shirts.

[–] Smoogs@lemmy.world 9 points 9 months ago (1 children)

This sounds like trump’s talking points. He’s feeding his crime family their thoughts.

[–] Bebopalouie@lemmy.ca 7 points 9 months ago

With Theil pulling the orange rapist/felons strings.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 9 points 9 months ago

Probably “bring guns and be assholes”.

Pretty much the only response they’re capable of.
