White House "border czar" Tom Homan told CBS News on Monday "there's no intention to arrest" California Gov. Gavin Newsom, after Trump suggested he was open to the idea — escalating a war of words over the protests and law enforcement response in Los Angeles.

"That whole thing's been taken out of context," Homan said. "They haven't crossed a line yet … If you cross that line, I don't care who they are — the governor, the mayor, whatever — and when you commit a crime against ICE officers, we will seek prosecution."

The administration and Newsom have sharply criticized each other over the handling of the Los Angeles protests, which were sparked by Immigration and Customs Enforcement actions in the city. Mr. Trump has accused Newsom of failing to deal with violence and ordered Marines and National Guard troops to the city. Newsom responded with a lawsuit over the troop deployments and argues Mr. Trump is inflaming the situation.

“The whole thing’s been taken out of context” says the man who said he’d arrest the governor and mayor of CA. It’s always “you took us out of context” with these assholes. It’s eye roll inducing when people like this use “context” as a shield when it’s obvious that words mean absolutely nothing to these wannabe fascists.

It’s always “you took us out of context” with these assholes.

According to cognitive dissonance theory, it's because of cognitive dissonance reduction. Example from wikipedia:

In practice, people reduce the magnitude of their cognitive dissonance in four ways:

  1. Change the behavior or the cognition ("I'll eat no more of this doughnut.")
  2. Justify the behavior or the cognition, by changing the conflicting cognition ("I'm allowed to cheat my diet every once in a while.")
  3. Justify the behavior or the cognition by adding new behaviors or cognitions ("I'll spend thirty extra minutes at the gymnasium to work off the doughnut.")
  4. Ignore or deny information that conflicts with existing beliefs ("This doughnut is not a high-sugar food.")

The last thing people want to do, is admit to themselves that they are evil or stupid. It doesn't feel good.

Homan kinda gives off "good ol' boy" version of Hugh Man vibes.
