The First International Syndicalist Congress was a meeting of European and Latin American syndicalist organizations at Holborn Town Hall in London that began on this day in 1913. The congress was attended by 38 delegates representing 65 organizations from Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Cuba, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom, with a total membership between 220,000 and 250,000.

Despite being marked by heated disagreements over both tactics and principles, the Congress succeeded in creating the International Syndicalist Information Bureau as a vehicle of exchange and solidarity between the various organizations, and the "Bulletin international du mouvement syndicaliste" as a means of communication. It would be viewed as a success by almost all who participated.

My adoptive parents after not getting me anything for my birthday and having people over the entire day (not for my birthday, just for their sake) but having a cake and people over for their biological children: yeah we're trying to celebrate everything this year

Has anyone made an AI voice of the deserter from Disco Elysium read the copypasta about the bitter commie who lives in a t-34?

Linkedin sent me an email with the subject “{:isHiringTrendsPositive}”, I can’t tell if it’s a genuine bug or if they’re trying to do some “hello fellow programmers” shit

I really should learn to manage not being self sabotaging/destructive for once since I had to make a new account. Also ohnoes fuck, since having to change my diet after my wisdom teeth removal from last week, I weigh like 89lb now.

Unrelated but there also something really nice about cold water and just bundling up under a ton of blankets

The plan was to see my buddy one more time this year. Gonna see him twice now. He lives in a different city so its a bit of a hassle but I love to meet him IRL we usually only game or talk online. gaddafi-happy

I used to LOVE space. Facts about planets, about missions, the thin veneer of cooperation we told ourselves about when working with the USSR and then Russia.

Now it seems like Outer Orbit Life will never be possible. Like Gundam’s notion that it’ll lead to wars is truer by the day, that scifi classifying it as a libertarian hellscape where people are worked to death for profits instead of for the betterment for all in the shining blue pearl.

Space used to hold an optimism for me. Now they put a ticketbooth in front of it, abandoned it and put a 15 ft fence around the very idea.

It is easier to imagine abandoning the earth for all the evils we brought upon it, but as time goes on you only get to imagine 7 people on that ship. The rest left to die. So far from that turn-of-the-century optimism we were so full of.

I keep disassociating; I don't know what's happening. I had to have a friend come with me to the grocery store and tell me what to buy cuz I couldn't do it.

a man walked up and asked if he could socialize his dog around us, i said yes, then he tried to get me to pet him as well. i think the moral of this story is to only approach unattended animals from now on

I exclusively watch the PBS Kids educational cartoon series Elinor Wonders Why because it's the only show that hasn't been tainted by woke bullshit.

Welp, today I made what was by far the worst mistake I’ve ever made in any job.

CW: Animal sufferingI missed a 0 when diluting insulin and accidentally gave a a bunch of rats 10 times as much insulin as they were supposed to receive. 3 died, 1 has recovered but had seizures before he passed out and has had a another since waking up, and 1 is still unconscious. I’ve spent the last 4 hours syringing sugar water into their mouths trying to keep them alive. I did mouth to mouth CPR on a rat.

.

Also, while this is fully my fault and I shouldn’t have fucked that math up, why the fuck is insulin measured differently from every other substance on earth? What the hell is a “unit of insulin”?? The hell do you mean this vial is 100 units per mL? Why is my final concentration in units per kilogram??? Just use grams you fucking weirdos! If insulin just had normal measurements this error wouldn’t have happened, and I guarantee I’m not the first person to cause problems because of that.

Like, at the end of the day I should’ve done better math. But if I’m engineering disaster style trying to figure out what parts of the system led to the problem and what to change to prevent it happening again, one of my suggestions would be to measure insulin the same way as every other substance.

I regret pushing my bedtime back to shower. I wish I still stank but had 30 minutes more sleep sicko-wistful

I just found out today that the new Futurama season dropped already.

Woof is it rough. I mean its not terrible, certainly no worse than the worst old futurama got, and its pretty funny at times but its got that... Hulu Original vibe that just leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

Cushbomb once said that sports are a reward for a society that takes care of its people’s needs and I think about that a lot

Sister went to her friend's wedding and just tested positive for covid. Despite having some significant comorbidities she hasn't taken it seriously since like 2021.

I've always been a stickler about masking and such so I feel vindicated in some ways but i also have no clue how this is gonna go. Hopefully we can get her Paxlovid'd up ASAP

Apparently Paxlovid would interact negatively with some of her meds, so they're holding off giving it to her for now. Not good!

I really need to delete my reddit account. My interactions on Hexbear and really any other social are so much more positive, idk why I keep posting there.

[–] Des@hexbear.net 10 points 2 years ago (1 children)

same here. i occasionally comment on reddit (mostly in trueanon, shitliberalssay, thedeprogam) or call out shitlibs but never read my responses because i hate redditors. have like hundreds unread. can't seem to get myself banned no matter how hard i try maybe it's because my account has too much fucking karma and was lib at one time i dunno.

meanwhile i'm just slow to respond on here because of some latent fear of "umm aksully" responses but everyone's always nice and you think i'd know this since i've been here since day 1.

If someone told you "Your brain is so smooth I could skip it across a lake" would that be devastating or would you immediately call that person a fucking dork? nerd

[–] Stoatmilk@hexbear.net 10 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I'm addicted to these videos on Chinese tiktok where a guy buys a rock that is maybe like a blind box for gems or something, and then they open it with a saw and shine a mysterious flashlight at it and that apparently tells them it's a dud, because they throw it in the trash at the end. I'm not really sure what is going on or how there are so many of this same video, but the idea of throwing a rock in the trash just tickles my brain.

What is it about Evangelical Christians that make them so prone to being ghouls? It seems like any place with a strong Evangelical presence ends up being extremely chuddy with the most far-right views.
