I let this concept dissuade me from becoming a developer and have lost almost 2 years of progress towards that goal... Fucking marketers and executives exclaiming its inevitability, that it was just a matter of months/years...

Being a hype marketer or thought leader executive is more lucrative than being a good developer. Unfortunately - I think, at least - engineering types understand too much about the technology and it’s hard to be such a massive advocate for something you know is 1/4 complete.
