He won Montesong with the song "Click bait" which he shouted out in his points announcement.

He had to withdraw after it turned out his song was performed in 2023 in violation of the ESC rules. The second place song was sent instead, the lovely Dobtodošli by Nina Žižić.

violation of esc rules because the song os older than 1 year?

[–] clay_pidgin@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Yes, sorry I should have been clearer. All songs need to be new, never publicly performed before the year of the contest.

They can be WRITTEN and produced earlier, but not released.

isn't it "earlier than a year before the contest" and not "year of the contest"?

they performed blood and glitter in 2023.

come to think of it idk when they performed it first

You may be correct. I don't know the best place to find rules, as I know they've changed several times over the decades.

I believe it cannot be released before September 1st of the prior year, so songs for 2026 cannot be released before September 1st this year.

Thank you for the clarification!

Blood and Glitter is a great song and an awesome performance, by the way.

This is why die-hard Eurovision fans often wish each other a Happy New Year on September 1st rather than January 1st.

Oh really! I've rarely met another fan in real life. I'm a constant evangelist among the ignorant masses.

ETA I realized I’m probably in the oldest ten percent of Lemmings and nobody else remembers this so here’s all of them.
