They are 100% attempting to emotionally manipulate you when they sell the insurance. I have gotten a quote from one of these places, and the phone call was lots of "What would happen if you couldn't afford XXXX's vet care?"

Annoyingly, all of the pet insurance products are basically the same underlying policy, so there is basically no competition either.

Yep. I used to go through RSPCA because I figured that it was probably doing some good, but I realised that it's just them allowing their brand to be licensed so they can sell an allianz product just like all the rest. I just donate directly to the RSPCA now.

When I looked into i, it didn't cover GI tract issues, things like colitis. Literally 90% of the reasons I've had to take my dog to the emergency vet (which costs a mint, but those people are overworked Saints) is because he ate something he shouldn't have. Not worth it.

Part of getting a pet is making sure you can afford the care they need, in sickness and health. If people can't afford good quality food, regular health checks and vaccinations, and have the cash to deal with a crisis in a pinch - then it's worth considering if they can afford what the animals needs.

It used to be useful years ago to cover some unexpected costs. But now pure waste of money. To many exemptions and caps.

I got my 2 dogs desexed and for 1000 dollars I got 100 bucks back ($50 for each dog). It's the pay it, then hope you accept your claim.

Very few pet procedures cost north of $5,000. If you can save up a war chest of that amount for your pets, I don’t see the need for pet insurance.

Cancer and snake bites. Snake bite antivenin and treatment is $5k at least. I think cancer treatments are a couple of thousand each.
