The Overton window is the range of subjects and arguments politically acceptable to the mainstream population at a given time. It is also known as the window of discourse.

I guess the window can even grow larger, to cover both shooting CEOs and dismantling Medicare as acceptable at the same time.

I see this get quoted a lot but it's still just a social theory. It sounds good and has a nice explanation but I reckon it doesn't necessarily mean shit.
