Dumb ways to die...

[–] pennomi@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Contrary to what you might have been told, the singular for dice can be either “die” or “dice”.

[–] Rampsquatch@sh.itjust.works 14 points 2 months ago (2 children)

That's only because that's how people use the term. It didn't start that way. Isn't language neat?

"Literally" no longer means just "literally", but also "figuratively". Otherwise known as the opposite of the original definition.

Using “dice” as a singular noun dates back the 1400s. I think it’s been in circulation long enough to be commonly accepted by now.

[–] Rampsquatch@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

And if I say "die" in regards to a single object and "dice" for plural, you and everyone else still understands what I'm talking about. Isn't language neat?

[–] pennomi@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Yeah? That’s what I said above - either can correctly be used. Not sure what point you’re trying to make here.

[–] Rampsquatch@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 months ago

That language is neat. I wasn't trying to be argumentative, sorry if it came off that way.

Don't be so sure. What number is on the side to the right of the 5? Where did the border come from?

Mario's sorcery knows no bounds.

The day will never come, but I really hope some day they make a Mario Party spin off movie where Mario pulls a SAW kind of plot and ruins everybody's childhood like that weird Winnie the Pooh horror flick that recently came out.

If Mario ever drops into the public domain, you could make a fortune on this.

Write the movie now and wait. The day it hits public domain you'll be ready.

Not 100% the same thing, but There Will Be Brawl was fun. Kirby was a Hannibal Lecter killer in that show.

This was a great series. So much nostalgia.

[–] markovs_gun@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

Good news you only have to wait until 2080 when Mario enters the public domain, assuming copyright doesn't get extended again by then

Watched a strange rendition of Peter Pan recently where Peter was a child abductor and Tinkerbell was a child he had abducted years ago and has been shooting up with heroine or pcp for years calling it pixie dust. Not sure id recommend it, but if that exists... You might get your wish of Mario Party haha

Today I learned this was made by the actual creator of Hellsing

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 months ago

I saw the pose and knew damned well what this was. Also know I'm wondering if the creator of Hellsing is aware of the abridged version.

[–] blackluster117@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 months ago

There can be only one!
