I quit smoking and drinking a year or so ago and I’m no happier than I was before I quit.
Of course I’m not worried about dying. I don’t have to foot the bill.

Leave the country?
My parents died at 72 and 74. A lot of us working class people don’t live that long.
American social safety nets and retirement readiness has always been extremely weak. Now it's actively being targeted and destroyed by the government. So unless experts are telling you to reduce that risk by amassing in arms, revolting, targeting the ultra wealthy, and going to war with the government, they ain't shit.
