The problem is that this is absolutely true and they are not ashamed to admit it. Whether or not they call it privilege, they fully believe that they are entitled to rights exclusively because they are Citizens/White/Men/Christian/Republican/etc. To be privileged is what they want.

There are some people that I specifically do not want to have freedom. If they hadn't had freedom, we might not be in the mess we are in.

But in general, yes, I agree with your message. Self-determination is the right of all sentient beings.
