Lol, thinking opera composers were rich people.

[–] jmcs@discuss.tchncs.de 35 points 2 years ago

Also Operas aren't necessarily much more expensive than a cinema ticket. Some Opera houses have reasonable prices.

~20 min clicking through the wikipedia page on Opera seems to suggest you're correct, most of them were middle class or poor

huh. til

Many classical composers were basically like pets rich people owned (sponsored).

My wife graduated in the opera arts. Now teaching because the money is better and more reliable.

You know your field is fucked when people are becoming teachers for the higher pay.

The players aren't rich either, nor most of the singers.

You don't need to be rich to go to your local theater. Theater can be great

As our home screens got bigger and the price got higher and the experience worse I stopped going to the movies entirely; but theater I do still go a few times a year

memes: easy as F to produce propaganda for the rich of any country to use on the poor of any other country

[–] Chev@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago

Probably depends on where you live but for example in Austria, you can be poor and are still able to go and to enjoy the theater or opera.

Where does my-hero factor into it? Unless he's an after-market and very-divorced dealer down at the used meme dealership.

Revolution of what? Going to the theater to become rich? What stoner did you chat with?

memes still require content created by the rich people

[–] Stamets@startrek.website 13 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I'm guessing you're pretty young and don't remember the garbage memes from the early 2000s. Zero content required from rich people.

[–] K0W4LSK1@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I do remember them we need to get back to those beautiful pieces of artwork memes are too commercialized now lmao

It pisses me off when memes are coopted by corporations. That should be illegal.
