So I have like 8 external hard drives with various backups on them. These drives are all quite old and I want to begin backups. One already died. 🥺

I usually buy the 5tb external Seagate drives but the price of the Barracuda and Iron Wolf SATA drives are a lot better.

What would be the downside in buying a SATA drive and sticking it in an enclosure?

I don't have enough money to go all out but I would love to begin building a NAS setup for easy access to my drives of anyone has some tips to start.

Also what exactly is RAID? I have looked it up but do not fully understand?

Does anyone have experience with the brand 'Terramaster' I have been looking at their bays.
