The smoke has reached Portugal as well now. Was a strange gloomy day here today.
Climate - truthful information about climate, related activism and politics.
Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.
As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades:
How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world:
Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:
Anti-science, inactivism, and unsupported conspiracy theories are not ok here.
Yeah, I've been watching fire.airnow.gov:
Edit: it looks like the US government didn't buy particulate sensor data from PurpleAir for outside of North America. You can see that for Europe here
It's sad and terrifying state of things right now from climate to ecosystems to empathy and connection amongst humans and towards our fellow animal creatures... hopefully we can right the ship or at minimum life continue without us...
I don't know about yall, but I'm super ashamed of being human...then am still able to find beauty in it, then shame again. oh lord, we are definitely not making it past the bottle neck, imho. Maybe with a lot less people, but that's just fine, can't help but be tbh.
It's not the number of people that's warming the world. It's the greenhouse gas emissions. Those largely come from the richest 10% of the world population.
Getting greenhouse gas emissions to zero will stabilize the climate. Failing that, even with a smaller population, and we won't.
The IPCC has a handy chart showing what needs to be done to cut emissions over the next few years.
Obviously the top ten percent is bustling and needy.
More people is more percent chance your gonna get greedy people, with more waste to feed off. Me, personally, I really don't need much tbh. Go figure (:
Thanks for the link, appreciate it.
Not really. There is a distinct pattern of high per-capita emissions in countries with low population growth and high population growth in countries with low per-capita emissions.
