Experts say US immigration law already bars members of a Communist Party from becoming citizens or green card holders, but they say Trump might run into legal trouble if he tried to implement a blanket exclusion of all communists or Marxists.

He also said there needs to be a “new law” to address communists and Marxists who grew up in America, but didn’t elaborate on what it would include.

He wants to propose a "Final Solution" to a problem that he is helping fabricate, manipulating the general public with phony outrage and resentment. Why does that sound so familiar?

Can we please not repeat what Mussolini and Hitler did?

Who are these Communists he is so afraid of? The whole population that would immigrate to USA is varying degrees of capitalist.

He literally could not define Communist nor Marxist. Not even casually. Even to his own base, he would probably just talk about wokeness or Nazis or some other nonsequitur. And he DEFINITELY could not formulate a legal definition for a piece of legislation even IF he had the kind of Putinic power he lusts for.

The Right doesn't know the first thing about anything in socialist philosophy. Everything is just a meaningless pejorative, no different than calling them "motherfuckers".

I agree with you, but I also believe these words are more than meaningless. While they don't adhere to any definition a rational person would recognize, the right has collectively twisted the language to misrepresent their agenda. Communist could mean a number of things to them. Leftist, liberal, Chinese, whatever. They redefine words. It's gaslighting.

He's not afraid of any communists. The "communists" he and the Republicans want to harm are anyone that oppose them on any issue.

I know immigration and border law is weird, but how is this kind of viewpoint discrimination Constitutional? Even non-citizens have Constitutional rights while they're here.

Communists are not a protected class. A law banning Communists would only have to pass a rational basis test to meet Constitutional scrutiny standards.

I'll assume there's a ban on fascists too once I finish this operation on my paperclip

Certainly seems like we're on our way.

People should know from his first term that what he says he will do does not correlate closely with what he will actually do.

[–] Xeelee@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

And by "Communists and Marxists" he means anyone who isn't a goose-stepping, Hitler-loving, card-carrying fascist.

[–] RubberStuntBaby@kbin.social 1 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

It does seem rather telling that neither Trump nor the current laws have any objection to letting in fascists.

[–] fbievan@fedia.io 2 points 2 years ago

sigh, blanket banning of something doesn't do any good.

also 'Christian-hating'

ughhhhhh

I don't know why anyone looked into constitutional law around immigration on this, because he is in no way trying to bar entry into the US of Russian nationals.

The communists of the former USSR who survived the Soviet state collapse are today's Russian oligarchs - aka the only people who provide financial backing to the Trump crime family org.

This is clear telegraphing of an intent to jail or deport US citizens who are political critics or dissidents.

[–] Michaelmitchell@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago

It's not targeting Russia, it's targeting China, his new boogie man. Many in the Chinese middle and upper classes looking to immigrate are part of the party. In the end those people would probably just renounce their membership to come in, making the ccp look bad and ratcheting up tensions with China.

To "love our country" =/= loving Trump or Christianity. Simple as that, and the Trumpsters will never understand or support that because they oppose anything out of lockstep with their beliefs. These flag-wavers don't believe in the ideals of the US, and they want to use this as a first step to begin expelling anyone they don't agree with. Yet they think of themselves as patriots.
