Nice architecture, but are there still any passenger trains ?
Inhabited Beauty
For photos of beautiful, still-inhabited locales! It can be a quick snapshot of your local town, a breathtaking pro photo of a city, or a pic of some fascinating piece of modern life.
The only real rule is that it must be an actively inhabited/used location (ie not ruins or natural locales). Otherwise, go wild. Anything that you find beautiful or interesting!
The original photo is from this travel blog (the logo has bee cropped out) and it's captioned "Bobo-Dioulassou Railway Station – from where you can catch trains to Cote D’Ivoire. Sometimes."
A skim of the rail operator's website suggests that they're much more focussed on freight than passenger rail. That may be coloured by Burkina Faso leaving ECOWAS in 2024 though, as that may have complicated the border with Cote d'Ivoire. The photo is from 2019 and pre-dates that barrier, if it matters
Why wouldn't there be?
Well area looks empty, but recently painted. English wikipedia says no passengers since 2024. French wikipedia says they are, but french influence driven out by russian-backed military coup. 36 hours by train to the coast at Abidjan. Any locals here to tell us ?
I imagine they’re busy converting the line to Russian broad gauge.
This is actually in Bobo-Dioulasso rather than Ougadougou
Fixed!
