Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

The Narcissist's Prayer

That didn't happen.
And if it did, it wasn't that bad.
And if it was, that's not a big deal.
And if it is, that's not my fault.
And if it was, I didn't mean it. <- he is here And if I did, you deserved it.

Ah, that old GOP favorite, the "Schrodinger's Joke" defense against encouraging stochastic terrorism ....

Markwayne will never beat the joke his parents pulled by giving him that name.

[–] xpinchx@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

My go-to bully defense is making fun of their name, it's so innocuous and not profane, yet it still stings and makes people wonder if they do have a stupid name :)

[–] barneypiccolo@lemm.ee 5 points 1 year ago

Markwayne "Hillbilly Is In The Name" Mullins

[–] harmsy@lemmy.world 36 points 1 year ago

Spoiler: No he wasn't. He meant every word of that crap. He just thought others agreed with him.

Naw. He was probing for reactions to see if he could get away with it

[–] lupusblackfur@lemmy.world 35 points 1 year ago

Gee, wonder how well the "I was just joking" defense would work for those non-MAGAts among us...

🙄 🤡 🖕 🖕

[–] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 32 points 1 year ago (1 children)

dude they never stop lying. I think mostly these days I'm just mad at how stupid they think we all are

[–] Zomg@lemmy.world 31 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I didnt elect my representatives to make jokes, and I'm sure others haven't for theirs. fuck off.

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 28 points 1 year ago

there's this joke about a republican senator I heard years ago. it starts off with his constituency beating him so hard that his next two children end up in wheelchairs. when the local news picks up the story they ask him, "do you have any regrets?" and the senator says, "of course I do! I have two."

[–] qarbone@lemmy.world 27 points 1 year ago

You can't do that.

You're an government official, not someone tanking a Tuesday-noon stand-up gig. If you want to be "funny" and intimate violence toward political opponents "as a joke", quit and pursue that comedy career you're tripping over yourself to practice.

We can't keep letting public figures say insane shit and walking it back "as a joke". You shouldn't be able walk anything back. If you want to recant, it's an official motion you have to make and you're fined regardless, if it was a threat/incitement to violence or slander/libel.

They should be afraid of the words they use because those words have a greater effect than the average person.

[–] A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world 22 points 1 year ago (1 children)

the classic "Oh shit, I'm getting to much backlash..uh.. uh..umm...er...uh... IT WAS A JOKE, GOD, STUPID LIBTARDS TAKE EVERYTHING SERIOUSLY!"

[–] theherk@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

It’s a prank bro.

[–] Nusm@yall.theatl.social 22 points 1 year ago

"I was just joking..... unless, y'know..... you're okay with it."

[–] doug@lemmy.today 21 points 1 year ago

Hey Markwayne you should put a loaded gun in your mouth and pull the trigger with the safety off haha jk but what if?

[–] zbyte64@awful.systems 18 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

But showing Trump in a casket is not a joke to these people. Their speech is worth less than free.

[–] lka1988@sh.itjust.works 15 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I'd rather show him lying dead in the street, in a pool of his own blood. Hogtied for extra snowflake reaction.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 5 points 1 year ago

or having a comedian, show the head of trump without his body too.

[–] HappySkullsplitter@lemmy.world 18 points 1 year ago (1 children)
[–] Hayduke@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

His name is

[–] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 17 points 1 year ago

Comedians can make for excellent politicians, but politicians on the other hand are total shit at comedy.

[–] NaibofTabr 14 points 1 year ago

Just a prank, bro

No he wasn't

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago

Just a prank bruh.

[–] YoiksAndAway@lemmy.zip 12 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Nah. You showed your ass you fascist piece of shit. (Referring to good ol' boy Markwayne, not OP, of course.)

[–] circuitfarmer@lemmy.sdf.org 12 points 1 year ago

Just like "I'm just asking questions."

Keep on shifting that window, fascist.

[–] Freshparsnip@lemm.ee 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Even if he was, it's not an appropriate thing to joke about! Just like it's not appropriate for a teacher to joke that they diddle kids!

[–] Empricorn@feddit.nl 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Losers will often play cruel jokes on vulnerable people, then claim "it's just a prank, bro!" when there's backlash, like that excuses everything. This is the same small-dick energy.

Too bad his followers are too dumb to tell when something is a joke

[–] PlaidBaron@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

It wasnt a joke. It only becomes a 'joke' when there's backlash or potential legal implications.

[–] SaladKing@lemm.ee 8 points 1 year ago

Bro wants to be a clown he should join the circus or go to do stand up instead.

[–] madjo@feddit.nl 7 points 1 year ago

Uh huh "joking".

Perhaps we should use violence against GQP senators... Only joking!

The republicans are such liars. Like project 2025 was just something randomly floating around and they weren’t serious about it yet here they are doing most of it. They’ll beat up journalists soon enough.

Pussies always fall back on that when you get in their face and call them on it.

Tike to start joking about using violence against politicians i guess

[–] InvestBurnout@fedia.io 4 points 1 year ago

It's just a social experiment.
